Biodynamics is a combination of ‘biological’ and ‘dynamic’ agricultural and horticultural practices.

‘Biological’ practices include a series of organic farming techniques that improve soil health. ‘Dynamic‘ practices are intended to influence biological as well as metaphysical aspects of the farm and garden, increasing vital life force, operating the farm and garden in harmony with natural rhythms (such as planting seeds during certain lunar phases) and energies. – Gold Leaf Biodynamics, 2008

One of our horticultural contributors, Carol the cosmic hobbit, has launched a very interesting and generous blog on all things biodynamic, including an introduction to the principles of biodynamic practice, current dates of auspicious rhythms and advice for vital gardening. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask all of those questions you may have about the nature of biodynamics. Bookmark it!

  1. I love that Bio-dynamics is so dynamic that it even helps with the social calender:

Nov 14-16 good energy for a party

Make sure you invite the plants!

  2. seems like some people are sadly misinformed about bio-dynamics. Thank you for this thread. It is very informative. Carol’s site is very good and explains things very well. A testament to it’s effectiveness is the amazing changes which have occurred in one garden in particular…check out the thread on sustainable gardening

  3. Nigel, yes biodynamics is dynamic, and i hope that the information I am sharing is helpful to us all becoming more aware of the cosmic rhythms and influences that we are amongst.
Yes, that energy does influence social gatherings, but it also influences the growth and cycles of plants, insects, birds etcetera. The challenge NOW is to become more aware of what is happening around us.
And, just as all the fingers of a hand need to learn to work together, so do we, in our sharing of information and knowledge, need to work together, in love and harmony.
