Let us know what you would like to see happen in Copley.

  1. I would like to see copley streets lined with fruit trees, native grasses and shrubs and emus and kangaroos feeling safe to graze in and around town. I wish to see a monthly food and goods market to sell or exchange home produce…yum…and I would like Tommy to get the Mister Whippy Ice-cream van going again on hot days!

    Comment by Nigel — February 17, 2008 @ 7:10 am

  2. I would like to see everyone working together to make Copley a centre of excellence, a place of sustainability, a safe haven, yes…full of trees and animals and kids all happy to be here. I would like to see colour on our houses and fences.
I would like to have a waste management system so that everyone could have their rubbish collected, and a community compost place.
How much space do I have here…..I could keep going forever….

Di, take as much time and space as you need – what you conceive you will receive. amt

  3. Reminiscing about Mr Whippy —

I can remember a soft serve icecream van (not Mr Whippy, some other name I can’t recall) coming around Sunday afternoons in Copley summertime when we first moved here in 1994. The van came for about 2 years and I reckon the man told me he came from Whyalla.

    I don’t ever remember Tommy’s van being operative, but it’s a great wish :).

  4. I’d like to see lots of fruit trees and vege gardens, healthy native trees all over town, great landscaping, creative living spaces, birdlife, a clean waterhole, a big cleanup of the commons, more hammocks and happy dogs.

    Comment by newseditor — March 6, 2008 @ 9:04 pm

  5. I will have a word to tommy about the Mister Whippy Van…I would like to see it renovated, parked in town, and I will sell fresh juices in summer to locals (special price) and make a killing from thirsty tourists after a cool juice or a slice of organic watermelon. In the winter the van will be open at sunset and for 1 hour I will make warm emolliente teas which I have been experimenting with successfully since my trip to South America…I dont mind people watching the process but please dont ask specific questions about the magical secret ingredients!!

    Comment by Nigel — March 7, 2008 @ 12:36 pm

  6. Oh, Nigel, that sounds wonderful….just love the wheatgrass and watermelon juices. I would also love to see everyone’s gardens green and productive so we can all eat fresh live food. This would be extremely beneficial for those suffering from dust pollutants from the mining ventures surrounding us.
I would like to see the return of colour in the street trees, winding along following the energy lines out into the commons, along the creek, through the backyards. I will work on the mapping. Of course water is of the essence, so re-lining the Copley dam could be a project for us all to work towards. May our wishes weave out into the thoughts of the people, into the energy of the land, into the spirits of all.

  7. What lovely wishes you have all asked for-
can the jaded poet ask that we all synchronize our body/soul
‘clock’ and stand under the next full moon and all
pray for community Rain, Brains and Chocolate……

Copley would be a barren place without you guys xx

may it be so, kicking bird. amt x

  8. I would Like to wish for:
GREEN TREES, WATER, RAIN, MORE TREES
    AND A SIGN THAT reads:

    COPLEY NUCLEAR FREE ZONE

what a fabulous idea for a mural!
    thanks mis sprinkler -amt

    Comment by Mis Sprinkler — March 23, 2008 @ 6:07 pm

  9. Ohh…. What an amazing group of caring people you all are.
I think we need a sign that reads-

Welcome to Copley, More signs than you can poke a stick at….

What is THAT megga sign in the tourist bay????

Who was that masked sign erector?

  12. Looking around the corner,
sighting that monstrocity of advertising gone mad.
Are we going down that road?
Bristling with billboards in the tourist bay?
Trying to see who is coming or going
wanting to see the country, the landscape
eyes distracted where trees should be
Praying for a great big storm to blow it down
where did permission come from, one wonders

    Comment by di A'rama — March 28, 2008 @ 12:00 am

  13. Its an affront to the good folks living in these remote locations to see them spoilt for the sake of a few gold coins. If these grey headed nomads want billboards and signs and mindchatter clatter bang, i ask them why they are venturing out to the back in the first place? Or is this garbage the brainstorm of that most insidious ism of all tour-ism and the agents of such peddling their wares from the city with the promises of wave after wave of these half medicated ninkumpoops splashing their super around with gay and ill-conceived abandon..if there is not enough to see in the boundless timeless land then its time to remove the blinkers or stay in the jason recliner and restrict the poison of the ism to the confines of your own loungerooms…gosh its enough to make the blood of us old timers boil!

    Comment by Caldwell — March 28, 2008 @ 1:41 pm

  14. Ahh, but did they ask for bilboards???? and whilst we are at it,
did they ask for astroturf ………
If they did, shame on them. Are we doomed to be betrayed
by gold crossing palms for the sake of the dreaded tourISM…
    But,
What if they ask for all the trees to be removed and a multitude of signs erected indicating direction, toilets and all the other things one could possibly need if one was a venturer in the
great Out back and found oneself located in a town such as
ours with a lot of the services located in one street……
    Serendipity, where are you?

The next question to ask is:
Has the tourist bay been sold???

    Comment by Mis Conception — March 28, 2008 @ 10:21 pm

  15. Well I am still going to wish for
    Rain, Brains, Chocolate
    AND
    Laughter…..

  16. Good-o Kicking Bird, back on track, there seemed to be some readers confusing this with the Community Whingelist, which is coming soon due to popular demand.

Scenario Universe doesn’t really care whether we’re whinging or wishing, it just keeps up the Cosmic Delivery Service of whatever we keep invoking… good, bad or ugly.

I’d like to wish for a passenger train, preferably a red steam train run by not-for-profit benevolent anarchists but a hitch on the coal train would be a good start.

    Comment by newseditor — April 1, 2008 @ 8:12 am

  17. …and also a hot air balloon for community trips, instead of using the van.

    Comment by newseditor — April 1, 2008 @ 8:27 am

  18. Oh, a hot air balloon – excellent idea.
What about a ‘Hogwarts’ type train – solar powered!!
This is just getting better and better.
    KiCkIng BiRd

    ps.
A WHINGELIST Wonderful idea, we can all get those irks out in
the open, maybe, we could even pop them in our hot air
    balloon and set them free….

    Comment by Sir Spense — April 1, 2008 @ 6:20 pm

  19. Alas! The shortlived Whingelist has been axed for being far too boring for Copley! And it was starting to turn into a Desperate and Dateless… 😀

    Comment by newseditor — April 2, 2008 @ 9:19 pm

  20. Ahhh…. Bring back the whingelist…no one even got started!!!!
We could always have another dating section….

sorry B.Moan, editorial prerogative. 😉 consider it a challenge to transform the whinges into wishes! perhaps a visit to interpol would be a good start for you 😛 anyway I think those two already hooked up for a romantic dinner – amt

    Comment by B. Moan — April 2, 2008 @ 10:04 pm

  21. Alls well that ends well….

Can I wish for a fresh fruit ‘n veg co-op selling or bartering locally grown?

good one! as we don’t have a venue for the time being, if you find yourself with surplus fresh produce, feel free to let us know in the trash and treasure post… I reckon the produce will be bountiful in the next year and beyond. ps. really, you need to contact interpol.

    Comment by B. Moan — April 3, 2008 @ 5:46 pm

  22. My wish is to see kids. I’m 34 and I wish the other yakartis stay in school, beat the teachers and get a good life. Aim for them goals. Football, netball… it’s not only Copley, you can get anywhere! There’s more things in life than horses and cattle so if you’re reading this, if you’re young, you’ve still got a long way to go.

    And so on.

    Comment by Listen — April 10, 2008 @ 7:11 pm

  23. hope the universe is really listening
as my wish heads way out there
to wend its way through stars and space
because this wish is hard to ask.
so much between its ability to be
    to visualise a pristine place
of green and earth in slow repose.
recovered now from all the mines
all holes filled in, all miners gone
everything put back the way it was
this place of peace of stillness here
streams flowing gently round the trees
the wooded hills hold back the rush
that used to fight its way downhill.
the sun shines filtered through the leaves
    of giant full fledged gums.
both human and animal wander there
    in harmony of gentle thought
dangers forgotten in calm of air
clouds drift along and drop their gift
to patter gently in treetops tall
then water slips to runnels down
onto the floor of littered leaves
collected there for all to share.

  27. My wish remains as is above
with added bits from times gone past
of stories told by fireplace warm
surrounded by ghosts of those now gone.
To feel the breeze on tendrilled hair
around ones face and nape of neck.
To feel the heat as sparkes fly up
to greet the clouds and stars above
    winking, shining, connected thus
to us down here on mother earth.
We watch as stories travel across
the star-strewn sky above our heads
then think to where we all fit in.
    We contemplate, we look inside
    to where the story’s imagining
came into being from what we saw
    from what we lived, experienced.
    We listen to small rustlings
among the leaves under the trees
and think to how small we are
    compared to all we contemplate.
Did our ancestors think the same
as they sat here upon this rock
and searched for meaning in the skies
to their existence, their small lives?
I think they did, I feel them here
    gathered round, feeling the warmth
of fire, of thoughts, of energy shared.
And so my wish for sharing thus
with folk right here and those gone past
into the night, up to the stars
or sitting there within the trees
their wisdom settling in the air.
We breathe, we draw them in
to be another part of us
to live again, to tell the tales
    of all they did experience.

    Comment by di — May 20, 2008 @ 11:59 pm

  31. continued on from posts above
my wishes move from place to place
    spreading out in potential space
    to create reality here.
what does one wish for in this town
where common sense is left outside
where egos swell beyond their skulls
as title infuses through the skin?
was it something lost in times gone past
or lives bereft of loving hearts
    compassion left upon the shelf
for others wending in their path?
    needs of self importance reigns
as little minds search for control.
is smallness held so tightly thus,
    expanding love outside experience?
was it violently sucked from lives
like withered leaves dying from within?
compassion felt by me for them
falls off the skin like heavy rain
on dry, dry soil to flood away
    forgotten, discarded, unfelt
    not understood within their lives.
my wish for those poor lost souls
who know not love within themselves
but only filter through bitter hearts
    that purity of heart-felt love,
is gentle showers of soft, pink light
    of massage in succulent oils
to moisten skin and heart alike
    accepting then compassions gift.
revisit trust of self to love
    empowering with open heart
    that child protected there within
against the hurts felt long ago.
I write this to myself as well,
not from a place of judging thought.
if all felt this love of each
and every person in this place
the gossip stops, the hurts retreat
to some place else where they belong
    outside of our experience.
    this is my wish

  38. I wish that folk would tell the truth
    not filtered through their lives
    just plain old truth
    the type that says
This is how it was in reality

    Comment by di — July 5, 2008 @ 9:12 pm

  39. this time my wish is different
    not like the ones before
    because the road gets serious
as we walk upon this shore

it seems some people out there
    cannot let go of fear
    but continue their own destruction
striking out at all who near

the truth has been a victim
    as seemingly they once were
without a voice to stop it
    so lie without a care

my wish for these sad souls
    is happiness for once
to view the world with love
    and heal instead of pounce

let go of all that hatred
let go of all that pain
let go of all the memories
    which lead hate’s way again

i wish you peace of heart and mind
    i wish you forgiveness too
but don’t forget this is your choice
not mine to give to you

    if wishing makes reality so
    then so let this be
so peace will be our welcoming
    and better our community

  40. The wish list is working……

    Rain
    Eddie home
    a community Market coming up
    chocolate, firework & communication…..
    I LOVE Copley

    Don’t stop there…….keep it coming…..

    Comment by gina — August 17, 2008 @ 9:29 am

  41. I wish that people would not gossip about others
that they would go to the person talked about
and ask them outright if it is true
not spread it to the next one along the end of the bar
amongst the beer and cans of grog which loosen tongues
and inhibitions get lost along the way, truth lost
belief accepted about things you know could not be so.
malicious lies go from one to one without common sense
whispered assassinations and back stabbings are rife
in small communities and I wish them all gone
left looking for the good in every soul
    smiling on meeting your neighbour
    wishing to please your customers
opening up communications full of truth

am I wrong to wish such humanity, such community
where all are happy to be here
where all wish to be honest to all people
where we create beauty and growth among our town?
I know this is the way to go, the way to a future for all
