To find out how you can chip in and buy a fundraiser ticket, visit Siobhan’s website dedicated to Maynards Well Stables horse rescue charity fundraising, or email Siobhan. 200 tickets are on sale at $5 each. The prizes can be viewed on the website and the fundraiser date has been extended to September 30th.

I take it you already know
Of tough and bough and cough and dough
Others may stumble, but not you,
On hiccough, thorough, tough and through;
Well done! And how you wish perhaps
To learn of less familiar traps?
Beware of heard, a dreadful word
That looks like beard and sounds like bird.
And dead; it’s said like bed, not bead
For goodness sake don’t call it “deed”.
Watch out for meat and great and threat
(They rhyme with suite and straight and debt)
A moth is not a moth in mother,
Nor both in bother, broth in brother.
And here is not a match for there
Nor dear and fear for bear and pear.
And then there’s dose and rose and lose
Just look them up and goose and choose,
And cork and work and word and sword,
And do and go and thwart and cart.
Come, come I’ve hardly made a start.
A dreadful language? Man alive
I mastered it when I was five.

post Local Green Thumbs: Morgaine

June 26th, 2008

Mogsie and her dad have been busy planting all sorts of wonderful greens in their vege patch at Maynards Well. The area is well protected from winds and goats and they have come up with an ingenious solution to both irrigation and frost protection with their poly pipe domes which can be covered at night and double as sprinkler mounts. The garden is sprinkled with edible and medicinal herbs and a great mix of winter and spring veges growing well, including brocolli, carrots, tomatoes and bok choy which is attracting the local bees who have a hive in the creek and occasionally provide honey. What a treat! The garden is fully organic and Mogsies secret ingredient? Poo! Well done Morgaine!
